Object of the Week: Passglas, Germany, Netherlands, 1600-1699. 52.3.28.
While not as elaborate as some of the other European trick glasses in our collection, this glass is the focus of a Renaissance-era drinking game. A person was supposed to drink only enough to reach the next horizontal mark and then pass the glass to the next person. If you drank too much, you would be required to drink until you reached the next mark, and so on.
